Artist Gallery

Rent Wall Space.

In 2008, after I had made about 12 metal art pieces, I made a photo portfolio. I took that to several galleries, and although each curator/owner there said they liked my art, they didn't have room to display them. Sometime later I heard about a picture framing shop that also displayed art. I found out you can rent some wall space for any style of art and they would sell your art from the store, on commission. The catch is you rent wall space with your name and short bio. A 4x4 wall space was $100 per month and if they sell your art they take 20%.

Better than the other art galleries who would take 50%. Some artists rented the minimum space, $50 a month, and some had a huge wall for like 300 a month. Even if this isn't ideal, you can at least get your art out into the public where somebody can see it.

My idea is to rent it a space in a mall, about the size of a jewelry store. I'd hope to create like 20 spaces at 300 ea. = $6,000 a month. Right there would pay for the store. Then by selling some smaller gift items, you make a profit.
Sell Something Else.

The only way to really make a profit on most of these ideas is to have some sort of gift shop selling items. So I'd have to do some research on like the top 20 or 50 gift items that would sell. Most times is t-shirts and mugs art gallery something more artsy.

Just like my catopia they have to sell pastries and coffee small profit to make a small profit in order to pay for the gift shop employee 3000 a month. You could sell rocks and crystals and dream catchers. I guess whatever thing you come up with would be what you sell as gift at it like it could be Hawaiian Tiki Bar and gallery. Just like my giant video wall idea that has to be a cafe drink coffee and eat food in order to make a profit.

The problem with renting your art space is if it cost you $500 to be in my gallery for several months then you finally sell your $500 piece, you're not really making any money. But then again you can rent a booth at an art fair, for one day, and that could be from $200 to $500. It's all about exposure to the public. Having your art in your studio doesn't help to get it sold. Unless you put it online in my virtual gallery ... NEXT PAGE

Virtual Artist Gallery

Online Only.

I have another idea for a VIRTUAL gallery. It's been done before, but I could do it better, I think. The website would display people's real, physical, artwork ... like paintings, drawings, photographs, and put them into a virtual online gallery.

A website with real art for sale, and competing with websites like Etsy. And when the item is sold, the artist ships it to the buyer. I guess its like eBay, but all the artists will know where the artist is from, and you know it is their own unique art, not mass produced.

So for example you could look up metal art in California, or type Beach life and seashells as a search parameter.

First-person views.

The big difference from eBay would be it's a virtual first person experience where you can even meet other buyers, perhaps even the artist, to chat with, if they're currently online. Another fun feature would be how when you can click to go to another section of the gallery, your online POV will automatically take you in front of that section. Also when you are viewing a painting, there's a long slider bar on the bottom, that you can drag to the left or right, so you can view it from an angle.
